Wisconsin: Medical Marijuana Legislation Introduced
Legislation to allow for the physician-authorized use of cannabis is pending before state lawmakers in Wisconsin. Representative Chris Taylor (D-Madison) and Senator Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) announced their intention to introduce the legislation at a press conference held on October 3rd. The Jacki Rickert Medical Cannabis Act would enact statewide legal protections for qualified patients who are authorized by their physician to engage in cannabis therapy. The proposal seeks to establish a network of state-regulated compassion centers to provide cannabis to patients.
According to a 2005 Chamberlin Research Consultants survey, 76% of Wisconsinites support legalizing access to cannabis for medicinal use.
